Ron Paul and "Isolationism"

The term "isolationism" is ridiculously thrown around and misapplied to anybody who does not favor perpetual warfare. Here's a post I left on the LRC blog on the issue as it pertains to Ron Paul's campaign with a link to a piece from a year ago on the wider issue:

The problem with Ron Paul is that he will always be sidelined by the "true contenders" of the Party. The media chooses who those contenders are. Noam Chomsky was right about that much at least. Is there anything that can shake Americans out of their fervent and naive faith in the two party system?

You're right on as usual, Bill. But I've become a firm believer in not participating in the farce called "voting" at all. I've tried to imagine Jesus voting for the "lesser of two evils" or plugging my nose and pulling the lever, and I can't. I believe that Daniel 4:17 clearly tells us that the ruling of the nations has already been decided by God and he allows only loathsome and immoral men to lead them. Let the unbelievers make fools of themselves.
And if Ron Paul is an honorable man (and I have nothing to say that he isn't) I predict he won't be long for this world. No way will those in power allow him to get elected.

Almost as if proving my point, media coverage of the latest Republican candidate debates once again sidelined Paul. Paul got about 5 minutes worth of total debate talk time while most other candidates got almost twice that. To add insult to injury, review coverage of the debate gave Paul, at most, a 10 second sound bite, while Thompson, Giuliani, and even Huckabee had their full unedited arguments demonstrated as highlights on both Fox and CNN. The big story, according to the media, wasn't even about the debate's Q&A and what was said, it was about "Fred Thompson's First Debate." The media decides who your leading candidates are, and that's certainly scary, but what's even scarier is how the entire Nation unwittingly lets them.

I would just suggest to Steve that if he chooses not to participate in the process of voting, he should also not participate in the process of criticizing or complaining about who gets elected.

Actually, since I don't participate in voting I am the only one that can complain, even though I don't. Since you agree with the system and process, (totally corrupt) that makes you responsible for whoever gets elected, your guy or the other guy. The Lord has already stated that immoral men are the only ones which will rule, yet you continue to support the process since tradition tells us its alright. But it isn't.

Someone should question the Giuliani campaign about Jonathan Pollard. I don't think he would still be in the race if people knew he would release a convicted spy.
