What is the Point of Christmas Cards?
In this next column, I demonstrate why Christmas cards are largely a waste of money and why I almost always am disappointed when I receive them.

Electronic Christmas cards are now the way to go - the ones you can download from the likes of Yahoo and send gratis to your friends or whomever.
They are animated and have music.
Try them. You may like them.
Why Pastor, don't you realize this is part of our culture? This is our way of relieving guilt for not having said a word to folks for a year and you would take this away? For shame.
And you need to remember that if people stopped the card thing altogether, there would be a number of American jobs lost. C'mon. Don't be a scrooge engaged in humbug.
My year would not be complete if I did not get a card from what's-their-names complete with a "letter" regaling with me with all their family doings for the year. The letters serve to remind me of why I don't see these people hardly at all.
If you want to know how I feel (not likely LOL), go though your article and delete the word "Card" and you will discover my secret message to you!

Positive Dennis, perhaps many elements of contemporary general Christmas celebrations are less than substantial, but the Biblical significance of the birth of Christ is certainly not something to just be discarded.
ok, Did I say that the birth of Christ should be discarded? No I did not. But what does Christmas have to do with the Savior's birth? Not a lot.

I'm not disputing that, Dennis. I am saying though it is possible to observe Christmas in an edifying way and even some of the secular customs attached are not all together a bad thing. Plenty of non-religious families got together to spend time with one another the past couple of days. For some, this is the only time to arrange such gatherings due to everyones geographical distance or other factors. Of course, I more than agree though there's much about "Christmas" that is more a hassle than anything else.
